Medical Breakthrough of the Year: Stem Cell Stunner

April 28th, 2008

In November 2007, University of Wisconsin biologist James Thomson, PhD, Health and Beauty tips and his research team amazed the world by creating cells with the same chameleon-like characteristics as embryonic stem cells but derived from human skin. With this discovery, achieved simultaneously by Japanese researchers, Thomson may have short-circuited the very debate he helped trigger. Thomson was the first to extract stem cells from human embryos back in 1998, unwittingly kicking off the heated controversy that has bedeviled scientists, politicians and the American people for a decade.

About national music

April 26th, 2008

Here has noticed such interesting thing… Each nationality, a nationality, the country, the state have a culture, whether not so? There Is howling a national music… And even if we listen any mp3- disks and if the national song we at once plays can define what nationality she belongs… It is very interesting…. Here there are any features….
And still, if to speak about a musical variety of the country it is necessary to note that each state has a hymn… Which together with a flag represents the country on various kind of actions, and is the integral attribute of each country.
Only it is interesting, and whether exist mp3 collections of hymns? I never saw something such… And can they and is, only in the limited quantity? And it can a state ownership? I do not know as you, but it became interesting to me… Necessarily I learn about this more in detail… Also I shall write about the results.

Fishing Basic Tackle - Rod and Reel

April 25th, 2008

The fishing rod is the first basic piece of tackle the average bass fisherman needs to consider. I recommend a medium or medium light action graphite spinning rod. I advise buying a rod six foot long. This rod can be used in a variety of different fishing conditions. As you become more experienced you will see the need for more specialized rods at times. I have always used Berkley or Fenwick rods and found them to always be up to the task at hand. You should purchase your rod and reel simultaneously. I advise mounting the reel on the rod and holding it before you make a choice. The rod and reel combo should feel right. Hold the rod direct above where the reel is seated. If you point the rod perpendicular to your body it should balance in a straight line. If it does not the reel may be too big or heavy and need to be replaced with a lighter one.

Your next consideration is the reel. For the average fisherman I recommend an open faced spinning reel. The key here is to match the reel to the line you will be using. I like a reel that holds approximately 150 yards of 8 lb fishing line. I also like a reel with an excellent drag system. You have two choices regarding drag. I prefer reels that have a drag in the back of the reel. For me these drags are easier to adjust. Other people prefer the drag to be in the front of the reel on top of the spool. I consider this a matter of personal preference. Try both and go with what feels best to you. When you purchase a reel you will see a term gear ratio. They affect the power of the reel. The higher the gear ratio the more line that will be retrieved by each 360 degree turn of the handle.

For line I recommend monofilament line with a test of 8-12 lb. This is as close to an all purpose line that you can get. Again as you become more experienced you will see the need for lighter and heavier lines. I use Berkley Trilene line but have tried all the major brands and found them to be good. They key is to match your line to the reel you have chosen. I like to keep 150 yards of line on my reel. If your reel holds 150 yards of 10 lb line then I advise using that weight. You should always keep an extra spool of line on hand. You should also constantly check your line for nicks and other imperfections that can cause a fish to be lost.

Reciprocating Saws – the Jig Saws Mean Big Brother

April 25th, 2008

The reciprocating saw is an adaptation of the saber saw, or jig saw, for heavy duty work such as construction. In this article I’ll cover the types available as well as blade types and their uses.

Reciprocating saws range widely in power, speed, and features, from less powerful portable, to high-power, high-speed, corded models. Modern reciprocating saws almost all have variable speed, using a trigger or preset using a dial. Another feature that has become important to the way these saws are used is the inclusion of an orbital action. The action consists of oscillating the traversed reciprocation in up and down fashion causing the tip of the blade to move in an oval pattern, up and down as well as back and forth. This feature is primarily for wood, allowing quick cuts.

The blades for these saws are range in length from 2 ½ to 12 inches, and are generally heavier than saber and jig saw blades. They range in purpose from cutting metal and wood as well as manner of materials in between.

Blade Types

Course Tooth – Typically used for cutting green wood.

Hack Saw – Used to cut metal, typically up to 1/8 inch in thickness.

Knife – This blade has the greatest range of uses. It cuts leather, rubber, cloth, linoleum, and many more similar materials.

Fine-tooth – When a smooth cut is need for wood, plastic, or hardboard this is the one for the job.

In many models, blades may be mounted to cut up, down, or horizontally, and flush with an adjoining surface. In structural work and remodeling, long blades are sometimes used to cut right through a wall, after of course making sure wire or plumbing won’t be damaged. Blades for such use can cut right through any nails they encounter. Blades manufactured specifically for cutting heavier metal, such as pipe or bar stock, need to be lubricated regularly with light oil.

These saws today almost always come with variable speed control. Speeds range from around 2300 strokes per minute down to a few hundred (for cutting steel and some plastics).

Picking the right saw for your own use really depends on the type of job(s) you intend to accomplish. A larger, more robust model is probably overkill for most around the home projects and not to mention the price for these puts them out of reach of most budgets. The smaller, lightweight, more affordable versions on the market today offer the typical handyman more then enough versatility to handle any “honey-do” list.

There you have it. Reciprocating saws are not for everyday use in most cases, but having one in your tool box is a smart decision for the avid do-it-yourselfer. Just remember to choose the right for your needs, and above use it and any power tool in a safe and controlled manner.
